There are a few main reasons why lyrics are important, the main
reason for having lyrics is because it helps the audience to engage with the
song, for example for lyrics could relate to a current situation that the
viewer is having at that moment in time. This could also help the viewer as the
song could be about a breakup and because the viewer can relate it may make
them feel better about it. Another reason for lyrics is it helps the narrative,
this means that the lyrics help he storyline that is going on in the
background, and it helps the audience understand what is going on through
lyrics and narrative. Moreover, lyrics also help set the scene, for example in
James Blunt’ song called ‘beautiful’, the lyrics at the start help set the
scene and atmosphere for the audience. The last reason for importance of lyrics
is it help to convey a message to the audience in the sense that the lyrics
could be all about love and how it hurts people so the message/morale of the
song is not to fall in love.
